South African sire Jet Master enjoyed an extra-ordinary day at Kenilworth on January 30. In the J & B Met (gr. I), his son Pocket Power could do no better than third in his attempt to secure a fourth victory in this race, but in a reverse of the result 12 months earlier, the race fell to his six-year-old sister River Jetez. On the same afternoon, Jet Master added two new grade one winners for the price of one when his daughters Love Is in the Air and Gluwein dead-heated for the Klawervlei Majorca Stakes (gr. I). click here to read more….

Sometimes a stallion comes along in just the right place at just the right time. One of the first examples of this in our personal experience was Rainbow Quest. A foal of 1981, he retired to stud at around the time that Northern Dancer was becoming a particularly dominant strain in Europe.

Black Caviar has yet to win a grade one event, but that is about all she lacks for superstar status. At her last start the powerful brown filly took her record to five-to-five with a victory in the Mazda Australia Stakes (GrII) (registered as the Stanley Wootton Stakes), becoming the first three-year-old of her sex to take the race. The Australia Stakes marked a comeback off a layoff necessitated by a torn muscle sustained when she broke awkwardly in the Danehill Stakes (GrII), and Black Caviar will attempt to correct the grade one omission in the William Reid Stakes (GrI). If all goes well she may then challenge for the Golden Shaheen (Gr I) in Dubai this March. click here to read more….

Highlight of the opening day at the new Meydan Racecourse in Dubai was the victory of Brazilian-foaled Gloria de Campeao in the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1 (gr. III). A multiple graded stakes winner in his own country, Gloria de Campeao had his biggest payday when capturing the 2009 Singapore Airlines International Cup (gr. I). In the Al Maktoum Challenge he accounted for 2008 Champion U.S. Two-Year-Old Midshipman, who faded to fifth after making much of the running. click here to read more….
