A few weeks ago we focused on Japanese sire Manhattan Café who is one of a number of sons of Sunday Silence who are battling to establish themselves as the true heir to their sire. Now it is the turn of Neo Universe, who with his first crop three-year-olds is sire of Unrivaled, took the Japanese 2,000 Guineas (gr. I) equivalent, and of Logi Universe, who lost his unbeaten record with a disappointing effort in the Guineas, but rebounded at the weekend to win the Tokyo Yushun Japanese Derby (gr. I).

Further to Byron’s notes about Sadler’s Wells sons and Mill Reef/Never Bend, there was a very interesting example in England on Saturday. This is the progressive Suzi’s Decision, who took the Joan Westbrook Pinancle Stakes at Haydock Park, and who now heads for group competition.

A couple of weeks ago we made a comment on Var, a son of Forest Wildcat, who retired to stud in South Africa and was making a big impact with his first crop of runners this year at two in that country.
Well this weekend he had the best result possible with a gr. I winner in his first crop! Villandry, a gelding out of the Complete Warrior mare Amazon Lily, burnt the rest of his rivals off with blistering speed to win the Gold Reef Resorts Medallion (gr. I) over 6 furlongs at Scottsville in a swift 1:08.44.

Previously on the Pedigree Consultants blog Alan has made mention of two sons of Sadler’s Wells in Galileo and Montjeu and their apparent like of mares by the former crack sprinter Last Tycoon. Of course, this is another “in house” nick as both Galileo and Montjeu are current residents of Coolmore while Last Tycoon was a former resident of the famed stallion conglomerate.

We’ve written before about the emergence of successful versions of the Danzig/Danzig cross, but we haven’t come across many more interesting examples than Rockdale. A New Zealand-bred gelding, Rockdale broke his maiden in last year’s T. J. Smith Stakes (gr. I), and winning his first graded race since, he stamped his ticket to the Queensland Derby (gr. I) with a tally in a boggy renewal of the Rough Habit Plate (gr. III). click here to read more….
