While it is a long way from the sale ring to the winning post, Jack and Mark Maronde have to be happy with the start that their star mare La Sizeranne has had in her life with her first foal selling for NZ$700,000 to the bid of leading trainer Roger James at the Karaka Sales in New Zealand.

One of the most interesting stakes winners of the weekend was Cherry One (TrueNicks A++), who took the El Paso Times Handicap at Sunland Park, to remain undefeated in three starts. From the first crop of the Cherokee Run horse, Sir Cherokee, Cherry One is out of the El Gran Senor mare, One Accord. One of the best juveniles of his crop, Whywhywhy (Mr. Greeley – Thorough Fair by Quiet American), made a promising start to his career. He ended 2007 as a top six freshman sire, and was represented by inaugural Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner, Nownownow.
