It’s not often that a first time out starter defeats proven graded stakes performers on his debut. However, Gooree Stud’s three-year-old Dreamscape proved up to the task in the Up and Coming Stakes (gr. III), and we are pleased to offer our congratulations to Gooree on what looks to be a very exciting colt. Dreamscape follows Hurried Choice and Incumbent as the third graded stakes winner from the first Southern Hemisphere crops sired by Choisir. His dam, Faith in Dreams, is winning daughter of Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winner Ferdinand, out of Handsewn. In turn she is by Sir Ivor out of none other than Thong, the great foundation mare who is dam of Thatch, granddam of Nureyev, and third dam of Sadler’s Wells and Fairy King. With this family behind ihm, Dreamscape obviously has the pedigree to be an exciting stallion prospect should he fulfill the potential of his debut.

Dreamscape is the first stakes winner for Choisir out of a Nijinsky II line mare, but Choisir’s sire, Danehill Dancer has been exceptional with mares from the at line (the cross of Danehill Dancer with mares by Nijinsky II and his sons rates an A+ with TrueNicks and we have mentioned this success before here). The mating with Choisir looked a good version of this cross to try as Choisir is out of a mare by the Tom Fool line stallion Lunchtime, and Tom Fool has proved a great foil for Nijinsky II (probably because he is bred on a reverse Menow/Bull Dog cross to Nijinsky II’s dam).
