CAPT. CANDYMAN CAN

Byron Rogers

A few posts ago we mentioned Candy Ride’s first stakes winner in the shape of Evita Argentina and a comment that she was a highly TrueNicks rated horse, which is often the case for a stallions first stakes winner. We also liked the look of the win of Capt. Candyman Can at Saratoga midweek and he is by Candy Ride and is also out of a mare by a son of Storm Cat, this time in Storm Creek. Two interesting comments to make on their pedigrees

  1. Forest Wildcat is out of a mare by Bold Native who is a close genetic relative of Mr. Prospector who appears as the broodmare sire of Storm Creek.
  2. Evita Argentina has her third dam by Valid Appeal while Capt. Candyman Can has his second dam by Proud Appeal, a son of Valid Appeal – probably meaningful given that Candy Ride is a Fappiano line stallion.

Captain Candyman has the lineage to become a champion. Nice looking colt could be a fixture on the derby trail come Spring 2009. He trains brilliantly in the AM. He is my pick to win the Breeders Cup Juvenile. And his sire (Candy Ride) is my pick to become a leading sire for many years to come. Love that candy.

I hope you are right. Hill n’ Dale do a great job with their stallions and Candy Ride was one obscenely talented horse

[...] on to win the Golden Slipper Stakes (Aus-I) and be named champion 2-year-old colt in Australia. More recently we made comment about Candy Ride’s son Capt. Candyman Can after his debut at Saratoga. He was an A++ rated horse [...]
