Hot freshman sire Speightstown added brought his total of freshman winners to seven with two scorers on Sunday, August 31. The Champion Sprinter, whose first crop has already produced group one placed Lord Shanakill, and graded placed Reynaldothewizard, was represented by the first winner to carry the colors of his owner, Eugene Melnyk, when the filly Mullins Beach scored impressively over seven furlongs on turf at Woodbine. Bred by Melnyk, Mullins Beach is out of the Silver Deputy mare, Treasure Beach, and is an A+ rated filly by TrueNicks.

Congratulations to Let’s Go Stable whose two-year-old Silent Valor captured the Sapling Stakes (gr. III) at Monmouth Park on only his third start. A son of current leading freshman sire, Lion Heart (by Tale of the Cat), Silent Valor is out of the Valid Appeal mare, Few Choice Words, previously dam of the stakes winning Tabasco Cat filly, Miss Jeanne Cat. Hot young sire Exchange Rate has a lock on the Canadian juvenile form this year with Southern Exchange and Juliet’s Spirit. The colt, Southern Exchange, has a three-for-three record, including wins in the Victoria Stakes and Colin Stakes. Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms is the latest major Kentucky farm to enroll its stallions on TrueNicks, allowing users to run complimentary ratings on a roster of 13 stallions.

Place of honor in the Hill ‘n’ Dale team has to go to veteran Theatrical. A Champion in Ireland and the U.S., the son of Nureyev is billed as a “Living Legend” and not without reason. He has sired 77 stakes winners, 54 group or graded stakes winners, and no less than 22 group or grade one winners, the most recent being the Arlington Classic (gr. I) winner Winchester.
